This was on Fox last week. Don't recall who said it but a guest said that it would take 8-14 years after the project starts to get any oil from off shore drilling. The Chinese did it in 1 month just 60 miles off the coast of Florida. How did they do it this quick, why so long for us, and why don't we just get the Chinese to drill it for us. Apparently, they are much more proficient at it than us.Oil/Gov. guru says 8-14 years for oil after drilling starts. How did China do it in 1 month 60 miles from FL?

It's not about whether we get the oil or not, though that would take a while (about a month as you said). The 8-14 year mark, which seems a bit high to me anyway, is based in how long it would take for that oil to hit the market and reduce prices.
Source of the statistic regarding Chinese, please.
China doesn't need to worry about suits from Democrat voters.
It's akin to an urban legend sweet pea.
China's demand for oil is higher and growing much faster than ours. When a market is as pressured as theirs, people are forced to take action.
What we need to do is pump the oil and sell it to them, keep the profits, and invest them into literature about how modern countries survive on less gas. Then we need to take this literature and beat the heads of people who complain about our low gas prices (because they are low, have you seen Europe's?) but also drive SUVs like maniacs on long suburban commutes. And we need to keep beating them until they either learn how to conserve and invest or else we just let their heads start bleeding.
I'm in favor of drilling but whoever said it would take 8 - 14 years is wrong it won't take nearly that long. Once the ban on drilling is lifted, speculators will cover and the price will come down quickly. China isn't drilling 60 miles off the coast of FL. Cuba has the drilling rights to an area close to FL and is negotiating with other countries to allow drilling, but it hasn't happened yet.
They're not covered in red tape.
Hey, Hey, HEY!! What are you doing? Don't you know not to let facts get in the way of politics?
