Your right. THis tax will only hurt the poor. They cannot afford a fuel efficient car. The Dem's are holding back the drilling, they could fast track it and we could have oil in 2 years, instead of ten. Its really sad how that have held our country hostage for so many years.Obama says he is for the poor. How come he's against oil drilling and nuclear power? They pay high prices too
Ask anyone who knows anything about the economy (ie not McCain, by his own admission), and they will tell you offshore drilling is simply a bad idea. It's not going to make us energy independent, its effect on the price of gas will be negligible, and it could potentially hurt our tourism industry, which has otherwise been doing well because of the falling value of the dollar. To the extent that it lowers prices at all, it will hamper our efforts toward energy independence, which needs to be our ultimate goal.
The problem is that people expect a huge return from a huge investment in infrastructure and natural resources, which they are simply not going to get. Obama has been saying that if there were any indication that the price would drop significantly, he would sign on.
McCain knows this, because he did support the ban as recently as May, now he has reversed his position because the majority of Americans believe it is a good idea. He's pandering. Here's what McCain had to say only 2 months ago:
';[W]ith those resources, which would take years to develop, you would only postpone or temporarily relieve our dependency on fossil fuels, we are going to have to go to alternative energy, and the exploitation of existing reserves of oil, natural gas, even coal, and we can develop clean coal technology, are all great things. But we also have to devote our efforts, in my view, to alternative energy sources, which is the ultimate answer to our long-term energy needs, and we need it sooner rather than later.';
Wow, sounds a lot like what Obama is saying now, doesn't it? McCain has jumped on the offshore bandwagon, just like he did with the Hillary gas tax, which economists all said would do more harm than good. He's doing it to spark your outrage, and he is clearly succeeding.
As for nuclear power, I haven't heard Obama talk too much about it, but know one of the big concerns is plant security. I don't know about you, but I surely wouldn't want to live within blast range of one of those things. Obama supports subsidies for biofuel energy development. They are easy to produce domestically, cleaner burning, and less expensive.Obama says he is for the poor. How come he's against oil drilling and nuclear power? They pay high prices too
He's not against nuclear power. In fact he's funded by nuclear company Exelon--they're his 4th largest contributor!

Edit: nothingconstant's right--it's dangerous and depressing. Just another excuse for a disaster and martial law (not to mention the depleted uranium needed for weapons).
1) Drilling our way out of this mess will only further destroy our delicate environment.
2) Building 45-100 new nuclear reactors is just inviting disaster. Ever heard of Three Mile Island?
3) When did people like you ever give a damn about what price the poor are paying these days? Didn't your precious Republican Party once call them a 'serious drain on our nation's budget'--not too long ago?
4) For someone who claims to not know what Obama wants or doesn't--you are sure quick as a button to jump on issues that have been out in the open for a few months now--and have been dealt with by Obama more than once.
when he says he is for the poor, he is pandering for votes. and he thinks being against oil companies will also get him votes. but it will also result in much higher oil prices as he only favors windmills and that just wont cut it. because he is in the lead, the stock market fears his radical programs and is going down in a big way. june was the worst month since the depression. people that fear his high tax policies are taking their money out as fast as they can. if he were to drop in the polls then the market would go back up. .
He's for the poor, only by offering more social programs and increasing the Government controls on the public.
If he's so much for the poor, why did he ';slip'; a mere 18 million dollars into the 2009 Fed Budget, for his ';pet'; project, the Shed Aquarium in Chicago. Then he adds insult to injury, because the same aquarium had a 10 million budget surplus in 2007.
Either he ';paid'; off an ';IOU'; for a supporter or he needs to look again at his District in Chicago that is STILL rampant with gangs, drugs and poverty. Charity begins at home but Obama believes he can cure our countries ills when he can't clean up his own back yard ?
Somebody please explain to ';Save our Farms'; that (1) if ethanol subsidies aren't saving your farm, you're just not trying, and (2) yes, increasing supply helps reduce prices (though the real culprit is the weak dollar / 2.00% federal funds rate) and while gasoline prices are up by $2.25/gallon, the combined profit of every company in the supply chain is 25 cents / gallon, up 5 cents / gallon in the last five years, so clearly this wasn't orchestrated to eke out more profit.
He is for the poor, he will feed africa. The people buying oil and nuclear power are all rich.
Get with it, Dude. They make $10 bil a year now in profits, thanks to Bush, and we're paying $4.29 for premium. they need to take all of those profits and give them to each american. 10bil/300mil =$33 a person in america.
Don't buy the bull they're handing out. Protect yourself and your environment.
You will be living in silt if you let them drill
He used the cost of gas as one of the ways to get elected. He complained. Hillary and McCain came up with a temporary plan for relief which we would have had in just a few months from now. But Obama says no. Now we come up with a plan that would work.. and he still says no... like he is already President? and his say is final?
anyways... I have been thinking about this. I come up with one answer.. he does not want us to stop paying the middle east .. he is middle east friendly remember? So his concern is not for this Nation and its citizens.. it is has as always been his Islamic connections. This is probably why they been funding his campaign... and eager for him to get elected.
I know it sounds crazy.. but it is very possible. Each day that goes by.. each time he opens his mouth.. he seems to have more terrorist ties and more toward communism and socialism.
Oil drilling has it's pros and cons definitely...
You would have to be away from family a lot.
Mudlogging, for example, takes 12 hour shifts and lots of overtime and sometimes in very desolate places. To me, the time away from home isn't worth it.
Nuclear power plants
My grandmother lives in town that has a nuc. Russellville AR. My father grew up there and lots of his friends that went to work there are now dying of cancer at 50. That doesn't sound too great now does it?
Not to mention the weekly sirens that remind you of the possible destruction of your home and life.
If he is for the poor, then he would be against drilling, since it only serves oil companies.
Get with it, Dude. They make $10 bil a year now in profits, thanks to Bush, and we're paying $4.29 for premium.

After living near St. Vrain, I am against nuclear...that place is a dump.
We deport more than half of what we produce...maybe there should be more refineries...and maybe Bush should release the reserve that democrats have been begging his to release? Oh year, he won't because his family is making too much money.
so why was bush against the oil drilling and nuclear reactors untill the election ? and who is going to pay for it ? besides it will take 7-10 yrs till we see any oil ? untill then what should we do ? put water in our cars ? tell us genius ?
Just because we have more oil drilling and cheap nuclear power doesn't ensure that the poor will benifit. As we are seeing right now, the energy will never get cheaper...the corporations simply pocket more money and charge the same rate.
Precisely because he is for the poor. Drilling wont reduce oil prices. Are you listening to Rush or something? Explore the real facts before you ask something that shows ignorance.
Oil drilling won't lower our gas prices. By the time the oil is ready we will be consuming much, much more oil. We need to support alternative energy sources, not oil.
He's not for the poor. He's for Obama and the blacks. I'm not being racist here. I'm just being real.
Yeah all those people employed by oil companies sure are worse off lets all buy those expensive solar panels and I'm sure we can all afford to put big wind farms in our back yards.
Reducing our dependence on petroleum helps the poor. It's corporations who have consistently resisted..and paid for it.
You misunderstood him. He is in favor of MAKING EVERYONE POOR.
The enviornment remember.
He wouldn't raise taxes if he were for the poor.
Just give Obama time - he will flip/flop on this as well.
Because Obama does not have a desent plan...
Sadly for Obama he will soon also have to reverse and flip flop ideas of offshore drilling, and once again pitifully pander to the right again… and democrats who are seeing the light on the issue. With 72% of Americans 3 out 4... supporting offshore drilling more people are educated on the issue. Also with democrats changing their mind in the news media now… Obama might start looking like the odd man out.
And I highly doubt Mr.Obama wants to look like a person that can not get things done in Washington or be labeled along with the rest of the afar left democrats that represent a big reason why congress has a 13% approval rating among judged by American citizens sending them their tax dollars from each paycheck.
No Barry would much rather tell us to go out and buy Hybrid…
As if that would solve all of our problems of high gas %26amp; oil prices… Barry wants us to buy hybrids that uses and rely on corn based ethanol fuel at the same time that it needs a gasoline mix that still depends on oil, and it takes oil to manufacture and even ship around the new ethanol fuels… How many years would it take for Barry’s ethanol plan to start taking effect “Seven” years or until 2030? “Twenty Two” years later…
How Does Barry explain in his terms what is an “addiction to oil” by mixing it with an “addiction” to Oil %26amp; Corn? Is that very smart with food prices rising around the world %26amp; crops flooding along the mighty Mississippi river, corn prices going up from “Seven” Dollars a bushel? No it’s not… It is smarter for John McCain suggest that we should try to make battery/electric or even hydrogen cars, and trying to push a program to get things moving on that technology while drilling for our own oil until we can ease our way through the transition… Even if we have an acceleration of oil production and the automobile industry takes a turn in the years to come we will still have a large supply of oil that we could use, or turn around and sell as our own exported oil. This in turn allows the states and the people to have the right to decide if they favor home based oil drilling programs. States would be able to vote for themselves, and that is what would work best, a governement that is for the people and by the people.
BO would rather say “No” to offshore drilling, and drilling for our own American Oil, gutting our economy… and refusing to work across party lines, and stick to bipartisanism as claimed by the media in the beginning, FISA was ok, but even on one of the biggest issues affecting Americans today we hear a “No“ out of BO.
Offshore drilling creates jobs, and can be done safely, boosting production and the supply would lower the price and add to higher yields of oil in the future... lowering gas prices that all Americans have to pay that are further draining their paychecks.
Demand for oil is outstripping the supply because Americans refuse to safely drill for their own American oil. It is common sense and common economics... While America has oil piped in from Canada… Now China wants to stick it’s bamboo straw into the Oil-sands as well. The rest of the oil we get we buy up from Saudi Arabia we are transferring billions of our earnings to other countries... Even the money from oil we pay for pours into the middle east as we speak to help build places like The City of Dubai that has plans to build a major complex city filled with architectural marvels. With everything from a high a record breaking spinning %26amp; circling skyscraper… to huge manmade islands atop the white sand beaches, hotels, mansions, and theme parks, to attract billions of tourist to visit every year, and spend money even long after the oil runs out, and the oil beneath desert sands runs dry. So until we can make the switch over I hope we are enjoying funding Dubai in the Arab Emirates maybe some of you Americans can go over there when it’s all complete and take a vacation!
Even stay… a while.
I hope all of you Americans that still support an Obama presidency, while you don't support drilling for our own oil enjoy the high gas prices, and transferring billons of our own hard earned money at the gas pump at the gas station, and then further to other countries dictating the price of oil each day… Because you better get used to it.
Mr. Obama OPPOSES offshore drilling, and drilling for our own AMERICAN OIL showing in his idleness %26amp; poor judgment, and ability to think “seven” years ahead. Ever heard of ';The Pharaoh’s Dreams'; come true that Joseph interpreted in the bible of (The “Seven” years of plenty followed after by the “Seven” years of plague and famine, disease, starvation %26amp; death in ancient Egypt and the surrounding known world.) If you haven’t read it in a while maybe you should, because it sounds very much like what is happening today with world oil %26amp; food prices. In all of Obama’s lack of good judgment, naivety, and inexperience claiming that America wouldn’t see progress or a drop of oil for “Seven years” from drilling our own oil we could find ourselves in the very same situation that the bible tells of under an Obama presidency.
If so…Then Barry will collapse our economy before Barry fixes it… There will be no green jobs… no new energy revolution, no energy %26amp; food conservation, after that we will have no way to pay for his over priced polices that will not even start to show results until long after Mr. Obama has left office… in 2030. The year Two Thousand and Thirty is “Twenty Two” years later… from the here and now in Two Thousand Eight.
Obama lacks the ability to look at data from outside of the box, he is a simple typical politician, a Jr. senator of three years seeming to be running for his own ambitions %26amp; power from under the cover of the left‘s mass media machine, and the Axelrod... Barry lacks the ability of intuition, the ability to see the real future, and the facts in front of him staring him in the face. Barry lacks a brain in his head that is capable enough to perceive ahead.
Therefore his stance is to say “No” to everything which in turn really reflects “ “NO” We Can’t!” and the results prove (“NO” “Change”) at all…
Barry does not fully understand in all of his unimaginativeness… while having a naïve, cynical, approach to everything… actually how to help the economy… or us here in America.
Until Barry wises up and gets real, and gets some much needed judgment %26amp; experience I will not be voting for him….
