Not true.
They support the Responsible Federal Oil and Gas Lease Act of 2008, which is an effort to compel oil and gas companies to produce on the 68 million acres of federal lands, both onshore and offshore, that are leased but sitting idle. Why are the majority of Democrats so against drilling for oil here in the U.S?
Because more oil is not going to solve the problem. If all the oil gets backlogged at refineries that means the same amount of gas that we already have being made. What we need to do is make the oil compaines open more refineries to produce more gas, which they already could do but are not doing.
Also raising the value of the dollar would help. If you really think drilling is going to be the answer, drill, and then in a year when gas is $5+ don't say we didn't say anything. Why are the majority of Democrats so against drilling for oil here in the U.S?
10 years, 20, 30 years ago, it was said that it would take ten years to relalize oil hitting the marketplace.
Now it's still ten years off.
EVEN IF, we have alternative fuels by some miracle within ten years, WHAT?
Will all the millions of gas automobiles on the road be junked?
Will the new gas automobiles produced and sold in 2008, 09, 10, 11, 12, etc be junked?
Many cars that are bought in 2008 and on are financed for 5 or more years, paid in 2013 on, to be junked?
Can owners afford to sell (give away, junk) those cars and buy new ones, even if they use alternative fuels?
Will all the farm machinery now using diesel be junked?
Will all the aircraft now in use be junked?
Will all the present heavy equipment, generators, be junked?
Will all electricity be produced by new energy?
All existing machinery be junked?
I THINK NOT.
We will still need gas for no less that 10 years, more likely for the next 20-25 years. Maybe longer.
Maybe they'll change their mind in ten years and oil will be another ten years off.
Because drilling for oil here would be destroying beautiful natural places like Alaska, where the untouched beauty is mesmerizing.
Destroying that, among acres of habitats for animals, just for oil?
No thanks.
What is that quote about giving a man a fish and he eat for a day, but teach him how to fish....
Instead of spending all that money on a finite resource, we find a different way.
After all this country put a man on the moon and brought him back safely close to 40 years ago. Have we as a country sunken so far that we can't find our way out of this mess in the same amount of time it took to do that?
Democrats are unwilling to throw more money to Big Oil, and drilling would do just that. With refineries currently at optimum capacity, drilling within our own country would not produce short-term benefits nor lower gasoline prices.
Really? I thought that since the oil companies had 10,000 approved leases including the Naval Petroleum Reserves that are presently inactive that it was the oil companies that are against drilling.
Really, it's more complex than it seems. I found a good article from Forbes that might explain it a little: http://www.forbes.com/business/energy/20鈥?/a>
I believe it was McCain who is so against drilling for oil in the US. Get your facts straight, I feel like I am speaking to a robot who just believes everything they hear.
oil 4 rich peapol
Because they are the environmental extremist types who are afraid a caribou may not like the sight of an oil pipe and dissapear from the face of the earth. To h*** with you and your family -- as you drive up and pay 4.11 per gallon.
Same reason why Democrats want Obama to be president.....
they like seeing the poor suffer.
