able to effectively take the place of oil? everytime we address drilling we are said to be ten years away from one drop of oil. if we had started ten years ago we would have that oil now.Why do libs think its a bad idea to be drilling for oil until we actually have alternative energy that is ?
The US already drills more oil and gas wells than the rest of the world combined.
Problem is, we can't continue to consume 25% of the world's supply with only 5% of the world's reserves.
If you had ever taken a junior high school level math class you would be able to understand that. Why do libs think its a bad idea to be drilling for oil until we actually have alternative energy that is ?
Because they use the notion that oil companies should be drilling on the leases as propaganda. Half truth mixed with complete lie equals propaganda.
What they don't say is A) it takes years to drill on the leases, B) there is no guarantee there is any oil (or how much oil there might be) on those leases, C) there are some leases that we know contain oil but the oil is encased in dense, non-porous rock which is much more difficult and expensive to extract oil from, and D) nobody knows how economical a lease is going to be when they bid on it (you could drop $300 million and 6 years on a lease and find NO oil).
Drill and drill now. Unfortunately, don't expect it with Obama+Reid+Pelosi.

You've got it wrong.
Oil companies are rufusing to drill in any of millions of acres where they are already authorized to drill, that have a lot of oil.
If they'd start drilling in those places, we'd have the oil sooner, without their destroying the rest of the environment for it.
But then, to respond to your last sentence, if we'd started seriously developing clean energy 30 years ago, when w of the left SAID we should, we wouldn't need but a very little bit of oil now.
AND we'd have each saved huge piles of money using energy that's MUCh cheaper, AND the air would have much less sludge, AND global climate change wouldn't be as far along, AND we'd be exporting our technology, AND employing a lot more people in clean, efficient, cheap energy.
But then, those who think that ONLY the well-being of oil company execs is important would have HATED that.
Sure, let's drill. Say, what do you think is in place to force the corporations which refine the oil to keep it here in the States? Let's say a foreign corporation offers an insane amount of money for that oil. Do you think the domestic company, out of some sense of patriotism, is going to (or can be forced to) turn down a huge profit just to ';keep it here';? We, the people, have already proven that we can and will pay nearly $4.00/gallon for gasoline, so don't make the mistake of thinking gas prices will ever be below $2.00/gallon ever again.
Drilling is not the ultimate solution.
We need to pour our national resources into finding alternative (renewable) sources of energy NOW.
We weren't in the middle of an oil crisis ten years ago, so nobody was drilling. Our country is smart and technologically advanced enough to have clean, renewable energy, but have been held back for years by the oil companies' stranglehold on us.
If we focus our energy and resources on alternative fuels, we can have a solution before we would see any benefit from new drilling.
It's ridiculous that the oil companies are having record high profits, while we pay record high prices. It's pure greed. I say lets put them out of business with a clean, renewable new fuel.
Have you ever heard of a human factor called stupidity ? When they are led by the likes of Pelosi and Reid, what can you expect. Talk about following the '; Pied Piper '; Do any of the Democrats have a brain in their head? Pelosi wants to drill 50 miles off shore ? Their proposed energy policy wasn't to be in place until 2013 ? That is one way of avoiding the decision making process. This last congress was very effective. They got themselves great earmarks and appointed 94 postmasters out of 294 bills.Isn't that progress ? For the dummies, YES!
I don't care about if, when, or where you or anybody drills. What I find unacceptable is that we are still using the same fuel that we used a hundred years ago.
The next technological breakthrough will be in the energy field and the U.S. needs to be a leader. if not, it will affect our status in the world.
you don't know much do you?
ever see what happens? remember mountain top drilling? did you see what happens to towns near by?
do you see what happens to shorelines and towns that have drilling near them?
guess not.. well, i hope you get the chance to see it first hand... in your town.
:D
Oil is not a renewable resource, and it is also a valuable raw material in manufacturing. We libs don't think it's wise to use up our oil deposits as quickly as possible without a plan for what to do after the oil is gone is in place.
We should be drilling for oil. The oil companies should be drilling on the millions of acres of our land that they already have under lease and stop trying to gain control over protected areas so that they can ruin the environment at their leisure. .
And we would have still seen the price increase due to the commodities bubble.
If we had started to reduce our consumption ten years ago we wouldn't have had the commodities bubble in the first place.
I think it will destroy our own environment. We need to treasure the place they plan on drilling. It would take a lot of drilling to produce oil, and we would be destroying our own country as we try to help it
They don't, they think that the oil companies should exercise the leases they already have before drilling offshore.
Two reasons...environmental impact, and the fact that we cannot drill ourselves out of the problem.
They want to force us into getting rid of our cars.
because its depleting at an alarming rate
this social lib thinks it's a great idea. Drill baby
I don't know, but we should. Drill baby drill! Screw the earth I was paying $4 for a freakin gallon of gas.
