How much oil did we gain from opening up the Gulf of Mexico to drilling two years ago?

George Bush signed a law on July 29, 2006 [legislation was passed by a bi-partisan Congress] to open up 8.3 million acres of the Gulf of Mexico to oil drilling. How much oil has been extracted from the region since then? How many barrels has been put into circulation here in the U.S.? Where can I find this data? How much oil did we gain from opening up the Gulf of Mexico to drilling two years ago?
You will find that the Gulf has produced and continues to produce large volumes of oil and gas. Problem is, unless we build more refineries, allow drilling off California, Florida and in Alaska, we haven't gained much.

Oil is going boom in the Gulf and most of it is deep-water production. BP, Shell and Anadarko have all brought in big finds of oil and gas over the last couple of years. How much oil did we gain from opening up the Gulf of Mexico to drilling two years ago?
I'm not sure where you can find the data but I have this to say..........say it's only produced 200 barrels. What has it hurt? They wanted to pick up these rigs that had sucked up all the oil near New Orleans and the fisherman got so mad they just left the rigs there as artificial reefs. It doesn't hurt to drill. During Katrina there wasn't one oil spill when it wiped out a lot of production rigs. We have great technology now-a-days. Why not drill? What can it hurt? It can only help.
Oil companies can't be trusted to actually take care of the refineries they have once they have them. They'll cut corners on safety just to save a buck.

But what the heck, what's a few lives to save some money...
