Why aren't you in favor of Drilling for Oil in America?

please nothing rude, no profanity! Just some simple points of why.Why aren't you in favor of Drilling for Oil in America?
The fact is that the areas in which they wish to drill are not ready. Even though McCain claimed we could start drilling for offshore oil ';tomorrow';, the fact is that it would take 5 years before a single drop of oil was recovered, and in all likelihood, all of that oil would be sold overseas. 鈭犅?Why aren't you in favor of Drilling for Oil in America?
This answer is totally wrong. CA could be producing offshore oil in months if drilling were to be allowed. Report Abuse

Oil is bad. Burning oil pollutes our air and warms the planet. We should get away from oil so that this stupidity stops. By drilling for oil, you simply extend the amount of time we are polluting our air and warming our planet. Oil is going to run out, and we are going to have a huge crisis if we aren't prepared. So, we should go ahead and move towards alternative sources of energy, not only to prevent further environmental damage, but so that the US leads in the hugely important future industry of alternative energy. Energy is always going to be big. Why shouldn't America lead that future industry?

So, why wouldn't you support the push towards alternative energy?

Do you not think that burning oil damages the environment?

Do you think that damaging the environment is a problem?

Do you think that there can be no viable source of energy other than oil?

Do you think that America shouldn't lead the world economically?
It might endanger the Salt Marsh Mouse that we spent 30 million on and we can't have that no sir, we simply can't have that.

If you really want drilling in America you have to allocate 5% of gross potential receipts for campaign contributions, then you will have drilling all over the country. You need to understand the new political concepts and road map to future success. How did you think Fannie and Freddie stayed alive if not for massive contributions on both sides of the aisle?
But I am all for drilling here in our own Country. Not to do so is plain idiotic. It will take YEARS for this Country to change over to alternatives. THAT is a fact. Besides that, almost every product manufactured uses oil in some form during the process. I can't see wind or solar replacing these manufacturing elements needed to go into the projects.
because the only time right-wingers and exxon apologists make a big deal of it, is when oil prices are real high.

guess what happens to the oil.

It gets bought by the US tax payer at the higher price and kept in the strategic reserves, while the oil company owned refineries buy the oil that is cheaper to acquire from their parent companies that pay foreigners only $15 a day instead of Americans $20 an hour to drill it.

Then when the price of oil comes down the oil refineries owned by the oil companies that stocked the strategic reserve at the higher price buy a larger portion of the oil for that cheaper price and then refine it just to sell it back to us.

Its another money funnel.

Any other time, when the prices are low, we have plenty of oil being driled in this country.

Isn't that funny?

There was no shortage, only speculators driving prices up by dumping 64 billion USD into oil futures at the beginning of the Iraq war.
It would destroy the habitat of the albino tube worms that live on the bottom of the ocean floor.

Or the Spotted Owl.

Or increase the temperature of the ocean water within 5.3 miles of the continental shelf.

Or kill billions and billions of caribou. And lichens...yeah, lichens.

And we can't live without the above mentioned beasties...life just wouldn't be complete without them.

And Spotted Owl is delicious when baked in a cream sauce seasoned with diced tube worms and garnished with red and green lichen.

Oil? Why would we drill for oil? We love paying $4/gallon and making oil companies some of the few who make a profit in this economy, thereby making their executives and stockholders even richer.

Oh, by the way....this is sarcasm...it is not meant as a personal attack and in no way represents how I really feel about the issue under discussion.
I oppose it because whatever it costs it is buying a finite quantity of energy. Investing the same dollars into renewable and 'green' energy will buy way more because that is where our energy future lays. The environmental risk and short sighted pay off seems like a too high of a price for too little gain. Also, if they started today, it would be at least a couple of years before we could see anything actually flow into our energy supply whereas ethanol could be provided from crops (hemp preferred) planted this spring, harvested this summer and in tanks by fall.

FYI: My 2000 Ford Ranger can be converted to pure ethanol without any hardware changes, in fact, most vehicles can be. older ones will need a carburetor rebuild to make it work but it will work.
Well let me see ';pffffttt token on weed '; the environment man mama earth pffffttt , we should be drill-in for hash oil man.

pffttt oh man what a rush I can`t feel my face.

what were we talking about.

Ok to be real just ma kin fun of the loons there , I think we should drill there is lots of oil off shore and the way to drill is a lot safer than back in the 70`s .

plus it would create revenue for the state and country if drilling was done.
We already drill for oil in America. The USA has about 20 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. That's about how much oil we use in a single year. You do the math.

The solution to our crack problem isn't ';more crack.'; The solution is maybe we shouldn't use so much of the stuff.
One and unique point. Oil is not the energy of the future.

Let's still drill and buy oil overseas as a temporary solution but let's focus the rest on new energy. Energy is f*cking everywhere. Let's use it!!!!
I am, but the ruling oligarchy in our corrupt country won't allow it.

( keep telling yourself it's the ';liberals';),. they say there isn't enough anyway.

We need to invest in technology which doesn't have us dependent on the middle east or pollute.
it pollutes the drinking water. it disturbs wildlife. there are other ways of creating energy.

we should start by making solar panels for roofs to warm homes and water. that would cut the dependance on oil by 1/3.
Who said I'm not? Drilling for our own oil is a step towards energy independence.

@ralph: No, that's Saudi Arabia. America has the most COAL than anywhere else in the world.
democrats are the only ones opposed to the idea, they are trying to save the endangered mosquito.
We should have accessed the oil shales in utah, but no obama had to shut that one down
Because there is a finite supply and we need to move into the 21st century concerning our energy needs
I AM in favor or it!
Dem`s won`t ever want more drilling... The longer we stay in bad shape the more chance dumb people will vote them back in
They dont wanna hurt the Red Throated Warbler
I'm not...if they would just go ahead and do it. They got plenty of land already...so drill.
