Why does the Media continue to ask about drilling for oil? Do they not realize we are too dependent on oil?

The news media is responding to three events and trying to determine if they are linked.





Time magazine has published an article on 11 June about how Iran has Bush over a barrel....meaning a U.S. or Israeli strike would cause oil prices to soar to $200 a barrel or more.





The U.S. was increasing the Strategic Oil Reserves in Texas despite the soaring price of crude oil and refined gasoline, so the U.S. taxpayers are paying at the pump to allow the U.S. to stockpile oil. The current stockpile of U.S. oil is estimated at $97 billion.





Bush this week stated his desire to increase off-shore oil production, which is probably what most of the respondents are referring to in their answers.





Oil speculators are buying crude now in anticipation of a strike on Iran, and the U.S. dollar is sinking due to a lack of confidence in the dollar.





If people fear the U.S. is going to attack Iran this year, then the news media is doing its job as the public watchdog to ask questions about this turn-about in oil drilling and storage at a time when gasoline prices are rising.





As for your second question, I think the news media understands full well the dependency of the U.S. on oil, and this is why the Time magazine article speculated how riots might break out in America if gasoline jumps to $8 or $12 a gallon after airstrikes on Iran.Why does the Media continue to ask about drilling for oil? Do they not realize we are too dependent on oil?
What i really do not understand from all you tree huggers is ...WHY IS IT OK FOR ALL THE OIL WE USE NOW TO BE TAKEN FROM OTHER COUNTRIES......THOSE PLACES HAVE THE SAME NEGATIVE EFFECTS FROM DRILLING AS WE WOULD. It makes no sense that it is ok to put other beautiful parts of the earth in peril as long as you all can drive a car and have lights.... I guess its ok when its not in your backyard tho? Hypocrites.

Because the media is stupid and they really don't think ahead on the future seeing if we don't do something soon we will run out of oil and bam what are we gonna to then? Same with pollution, and the o-zone even though it is mainly caused by pollution. Don't ya see - theres a pattern. Us humans are to stupid when you really think about it =P lol
I think that's why they ask. They know that oil is important to our way of life so they know that, that many people will be interested in that topic.
Trust me most of media doesn't, I know it's cliche (and many people don't like it) but i's mostly fox news. Also it's desperate times so it's not hard to suck people into propaganda.





Simple math, all the reserves wouln't supply more than 5%, experts and president Bush has said it wouln't bring immediate relief. Even official report reached the same conclusions.

Because they're financed by oil companies
Because Bush is trying to get Congress to relax their hold on allowing companies to drill for more oil. They realize it, but Bush is just trying to boost his ratings before he leaves office. Honestly we have plenty in our reserves that are supposed to be used ';only in and emergency';.....I guess this doesn't qualify as an emergency.

We have been drilling in the USA......we drill alot in the USA.....the fact is oil is running out. It's a finite resource....once it's all gone it's all gone.
It's not the media asking for it, it's the Bush administration. They have wanted to drill in Alaska and on Coastlines for years. Here's a clue as to why.... it makes a select few people in the World very very wealthy, including... guess who.... people from the Bush administration. Surprise !!?!

At this moment in time, our dear, naive, stupid president wants Congress to lift the embargo on offshore drilling. Doesn't care about the environment, dependency or anything else accept lining Cheney's and his pockets with more MONEY!!!
