If Obama allows oil drilling, does that get your vote?

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Sen. Barack Obama suggested he could accept an expansion of offshore oil drilling today if it is in a broader package of energy measures that would free the logjam on energy bills in Congress.

';My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices,'; Obama said in an interview with The Palm Beach Post.

';If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage -- I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done.';

Will this get him more support, or will he just be accused of flip-flopping?If Obama allows oil drilling, does that get your vote?
Republicans will just find something else that is irrelevant to complain about....

So long as he's a Democrat, they'll try to paint him as a ';Socialist'; and a ';Liberal loon';.If Obama allows oil drilling, does that get your vote?
Accused of flip flopping in the short term. For sure.

He never should have opposed it. His line of thinking, and the democrats line of thinking, is that offshore drilling won't fix the larger problem. And it won't. So as a politicized solution they opposed it.

But it does make sense as a stop-gap measure. Just that to trumpet it as a ';solution'; is false, and that's the climate we're in. No gray, just black and white.

He should be for it, everyone should be for it, where its safe. But the mistake would be to think of it as the ';answer'; to america's energy problem. Its like viewing the next cocaine score as the solution to your drug addiction.

No. I would not vote for him if he supports off shore drilling.

Charley Crist The Florida Govenor was opposed to off shore drilling when he was running for governor in 2006 now that it is what the majority of Republicans want he is for it. He is a flip flopper.

Obama is engaging in compromises to get other stuff he wants. There is no Flip-flopping here. He is still opposed to offshore drilling and in a bill that does nothing else he would vote against.
I would like to see Obama take control of all the oil that America owns on public lands and nationalize it to pay for all the debt that Bush and his stupid wars have created.
No, he won't get my vote. I don't like panderers. The Republicans have had this Country by the throat for eight years, I want someone who will stand up to them. Obviously Obama is not up for the job.
Oh he is flip flopping . he has seen that the American people want off shore drilling . now he is thinking wowwwwwwwww i could come around just a tad bit here and get more people to vote for me .

Oh yeah he gets my vote.........for the biggest loser the Democrats have EVER had running for the Presidency. Poor liberals, they can't seem to get it right.
He will just be accused of flip-flopping. The people who hate Obama aren't going to vote for him no matter what he does. He's not a neocon, so they hate him, end of story.
The more he flips the less he can be depended on for ANYTHING, including his shiny new positions.
no sorry obama could denounce his friends associations wife, he can stand on his head and he can let jesse cut em off i still wont vote for him
No. I'd be more interested in if he'll lose the liberals' votes who have been passionately lecturing us against drilling this week. lol
Only a moron would vote for Obama......I'm waiting to see what he changes his mind about next......Tomorrow will be something else...what an indecisive idiot....he doesn't even know what he believes in
No. Obama is a socialist and racist who hates American freedom.
Its all talk just to get votes...he has NO intention of allowing drilling...he lies...
Why would anyone base their vote off of one things: Oil?

Oil is the last thing on my mind.
NO. It means obama will change his mind for votes... What will he change his mind for for $$$$$$.
Nope.

He should have stuck to his background. At least then, he'd be believable.
NO

I was waiting for his flip flop.
Obama double talk just exposes him for the fraud that he is.

No Obama!
Like a fish on the dock, so typical.
His name is ';Flipper'; Flipper...this guy will say anything to get elected...wake up folks!!!!
Nope.
Liberals... say it with me

FLIP FLOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO.

What would he be like when he no longer needs my vote?????
No it wouldn't but it would make me less frightened if he gets elected, and I probably wouldn't need to leave the country. Is it possible that Obama may be seeing reason? I have to admit if this is true I am impressed. Yes he would be flip flopping, but if he flops to the side of reason then it doesn't bother me.

Also, I very much agree with that first quote. We do need a comprehensive, well thought out energy strategy. I believe that offshore drilling should be a big part of that, but we need to have a plan to conserve and find other alternatives.

Do you have a link to that story? I'd like to read it if so.
hell no.

if he was funding research into renewable energy sources.. then yes

and this just proves that he's in the pocket of a major oil corporation, so they will influence all his decisions, and if they don't like it, they can blackmail him, because they probably fund his election campaign.

anyone who are in the pocket of anyone like that certainly doesn't get my vote.

it's been like that with the republicans too.

for example, in the first Bush junior administration...

the secretary of energy- Spencer Abraham

he was paid $700,000 a year from DaimlerChrysler because he is opposed to all research into renewable energy.

Tommy Thompson- Secretary of Health and Human services

when he was trying to get in for governor, Philip Morris (the cigarette company) contributed $72,000 to his election campaign.

Dick Cheney- Acting President/Vice President

acted against federal funding for abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, he acted against the release of nelson mandela.

He was a CEO of Halliburton Industries, an oil company that had dealings with repressive countries (at the time, now apparently Iraq is 'liberal') like Iraq and Burma.

POLITICIANS ARE CORRUPT.

Hells no! We dont need any more drilling we need solutions that are not biodiesel or ethanol fuel, because these make farmers produce crops for alternative fuel instead of food which is one reason why prices are high to sky high on staple crops, depending on where you live. The less food that is produced the more people that will go hungry and the higher food prices will rise. If scientist can come up with a damn drug for a man with erectile disfunction, then I KNOW they can come up with some solutions to this damn energy crisis!

Has either one of them Obama or McCain said anything about alternative energy? With a good solid plan? We need some solid plans for a lot of American issues from both of these guys. Not just some vague ideas about what they are going to do. We need a president that will take some action and make some changes. I honestly dont think either of those two will do that. I think these choices for democrats and repulibans suck terribly. I wish there was a third party candidate with some good plans for action who really wants to turn this country around. I know thats not happening though.
It doesn't change my vote. But it does show he's willing to work across the aisle to get legislation that will actually help our country.
