Who and when was the OIL DRILLING RIG INVENTED?

I believe the rig used by Drake was nothing more than a cable tool rig that was commonly used drilling water wells. So I don't think he invented the oil well drilling rig.

The modern rotary rig was base on a 1845 development. See the site below for a full story.Who and when was the OIL DRILLING RIG INVENTED?
In the spring of 1859, Colonel Edwin L. Drake hired a blacksmith named William A. Smith to construct a derrick and the necessary equipment to drill for oil in Titusville, Pennsylvania. The early equipment was the same used for salt water drilling, or salt borers.

On Saturday afternoon, on August 17, 1859, at sixty-nine feet, the drillers struck oil. Drake himself constructed the steam engine to power the drilling bit.Who and when was the OIL DRILLING RIG INVENTED?
Yeah, FENX has the correct history. But the 'nice little touches' (weight on hook / bit, mud flow, power wrenches, blow-out preventers, etc.) were developed over the years as drilling became more sophisticated, deeper, and dangerous.
