Oil drilling advoocates, what do you expect America will gain by giving oil companies more land to drill?

...on top of the existing 68 Million acres they already have the rights to drill (on and offshore), yet choose not to?Oil drilling advoocates, what do you expect America will gain by giving oil companies more land to drill?
Billions of dollars will stay in the US instead of going overseas. The economy will do very well.

Those existing 68 million acres don't have oil, or the oil that is there is mud oil.Oil drilling advoocates, what do you expect America will gain by giving oil companies more land to drill?
There is over 1.7 billion acres that are prohibited.

This economy will collapse at some point over high oil prices.

Plastic, rubber, styrofoam... many things are made from oil, not just gasoline.
Oil,refineries,jobs and lower prices.
They choose not to because their Geologist say they existing leases they have don't contain enough oil to make it feasible to drill there. Or did you think there was oil everywhere??
If they find oil, I'd assume that we'd gain more domestic supply. It's really a simple concept.

Did you know that once you get a lease, it might take 10 years to survey and determine if there is any oil there? Then, you have to find the place to sink a well and hope you're right. If it was really as easy as you are trying to make it, everyone would be doing it.

If you give them leases where there is oil, I'll bet they start drilling as soon as rigs become available. For your general store of information, there is a shortage of oil rigs world wide as well.

Having 58 million acres with very little potential for oil is meaningless.
Yeah and you listen to that bogus argument from the Dems or any Politician refusing to lift the moratorium. When IN FACT our Politicians have put up so many blockades the oil companies cannot get to those tapped wells.
Well, for starters, the speculators would drop the price just by hearing 'We're gonna drill'

Hey, Open Your eyes, everything you know is wrong, so open your eyes! If we get more oil, the Opec countries will lower their prices to try and get us to stop drilling.

They reason they aren't drilling on those parts is- are you ready? There's no oil there!
The choice to not develop those leases is usually because the cost to extract is prohibitively expensive.

On the same token, if you feel that oil companies will not develop new drilling operations if areas such as ANWR are opened for drilling, what is the harm in opening them if the net result is no more drilling?
Because they choose to believe a company/corporation over their own government....

';so many roadblocks'; you mean like in Thomsons Point, Alaska where the govt of Alaska has taken Exxon-Mobil and Chevron (among others) to court for their refusal to pump oil over the last 25+ years?

We have a refinery capacity issue here in the states, we refine oil for other nations and sell it to them....while perfectly legal, what some oil companies are suggesting and trying to advocate is for our government to give them more access to oil so they can sell this oil to countries paying a higher price than us. Thats the simple truth of the matter and its also why our government, thankfully, wont allow this to happen.

Oil companies are going to be forced to do one of two things....either start putting more refined oil in the US market, or take the PR hit and make more profit elsewhere....

Hence the ';windfall tax'; measures being talked about....they realize that companies like Exxon could care less about PR (valdez anyone?) so our government will hit them where the ';free market'; can't hurt em, the pocket book.

And many of you shame our government for this for some reason....
More oil supply. Now while it is true it will take them awhile to build up the infrastructure to start really affecting supplies of oil, I think it is better we start now then later. The simple fact is that the oil companies would have to invest billions in just exploration, that does not include drilling. I know they have made tons of money, but even they have a limit. I think we should drill where we know there is oil and not force the il companies t waste years and billions on exploration in places where there MAY be oil.
Every time you lease some land to drill on, you don't necessarily hit oil that is economically recoverable. More leases means more opportunities of hitting oil. More domestic oil means reducing the $700 billion we send overseas each year to buy foreign oil.
It takes 5-10 years fora refinery to be set up once initial drilling takes place.

The United States controls (has available) 3% of the world's oil supply.

Exxon Mobile exports 400,000 barrels a day to foreing countries who pay a higher price per barrel.

I think its time for alternative fuels.
no we need to drill out own oil and like actually USE it. Not ship it out to other countries.

There are still more drillable land that havent been discovered yet. The Dakotas...citizens getting rich instantly!!
Jobs...

And Oil.

What will it hurt? I am quite sure that they will be built with the environment in mind.

They do not drill there because there is not enough oil to offset the expense of drilling.... Simple enough.
Economics 101 Obama!! Supply and Demand. Increase the supply, especially the domestic supply of oil, and the price will come down. We have to decrease our reliance on foreign oil and use our domestic supplies for the short term, and develop alternative fuels for the long term. It is a problem that requires BOTH a short term and long term solution.
Perhaps More Profit for Oil Companies, Tells you Where the Real Interests of this Government Lies.
Having the leases to land doesn't mean there is oil under the land. They get the leases, start evaluating possible locations for oil deposits, and they aren't there. Plus many of those leases are about to expire. Part of the issue is NOT just providing them access to more land upon which to drill, it is lifting the excessive restrictions that environmentalists have been putting in their way for years as they have tried to drill in other locations.
They don't get to keep the land, it reverts back to the government if no drilling is done...so are you advocating they drill where there is no oil so they will fail? hummmm
Why are the dimwits blaming the Dems or any other politican

other than the G O P and Ronald reagan and George W Bush

Reagan was the President that decreed a moritorium on offshore drilling and GHW Bush reinstated it while he was in office!!

TWO CONSERVATIVES !!!
These dumbed down sheep don't understand that it's all about possessing the reserve then shutting ';off'; the spigot. They think finding more oil will bring prices down LMAO!! How naive.
We will gain oil.

Why do you insist they drill on land with small potential when they can drill where there is huge potential. Why do you want US oil companies to be handicapped when the need for oil supply is so great?

If you like make them exchange old leases for new ones but don't prevent them from drilling where the greatest reserves are located.

Americans lose by your rules.
Millions more gallons of diesel and gasoline every year. Economics 101 Supply %26amp; demand. You put a lot more on the market, the price drops.......
Oil resources controlled by Americans and jobs for Americans. Gee I can see how that would be a bad thing.
