Why did McCain flip flop about drilling for Oil?

He voted against it back when Republicans had the Senate, Congress and the White House.





Now all of a sudden he changes his mind and says he wants to drill but the Dems won't let him.Why did McCain flip flop about drilling for Oil?
He flip-fopped because it became politically expedient to change his mind. For such an environmentalist and maverick in he's party he's really turned out to be a hypocrite and a coward. It's not going to have huge longterm effects except on the environment. Even if the US drilled all over the country we'd only have 2-3% of the needed national supply.





McCain needs to stop pretending to be an environmentalist. McCain has a 0 rating while Obama has a 96 from The Conservation Society. If he was a such an environmentalist he wouldn't support offshore drilling and the gas tax holiday which would increase carbon emissions.Why did McCain flip flop about drilling for Oil?
It's an excellent placebo for making people think you are doing something for them - physcological 'action' - commonly called pandering. Politicians have been doing this to us for over 200 years. Headgames.





As you point out for the 6 years the republicans had all 3 branches - crickets - not even a vote or a peep. The oil companies are currently setting on over 68 million acres of Federal lands and not drilling there - no theater/drama there - nuff said.
McCain has become the King of Flip-Floppers. There are a plethora of issues on which he has changed his tune, depending on the polls and what his lobbyist campaign advisors tell him is prudent. If McCain were honest about anything these days, he would rationally explain that drilling offshore or in Alaska are limited and long-term solutions for a more exorbitant problem.
