they had control of the Senate,
Congress and the White House.Why didn't the Republicans approve drilling for Oil when they had the chance?
You are talking Republicans who have done nothing but move America backwards in the last 12 years.
Now they see an advantage to blame anyone but conservatives and as usual, they lie to continue the perception.Why didn't the Republicans approve drilling for Oil when they had the chance?
You are talking to people who think whatever happened between 2001 and 2006 was Clinton's fault since he had a Republican dominated congress, and whatever happened after November 2006 was a Democrat's fault even thought they didn't take office yet, and stil do not have a strong enough majority to mean anything but the SotH is a Democrat.
But to answer your question, Republicans and Democrats both know that if we increase production enough to matter, when the market corrects itself, our economy will probably suffer before production can be cut back. They also know supply isn't the problem, nor is places to drill. It is just a little drama Republicans are playing so they can continue to let oil companies keep the same level of supply while blaming environmentalists for the problem.
Its called business and government working hand in hand to benefit each other. Know what kind of system that is?
Give you a hint. The word for it was derived from the Latin word Fasces, meaning abundle of rods tied around an axe.
Why would anyone drill more or build more refineries, when they have a convienient scapegoat, called environmentalists, to blame their record profits on?
That is a great question.
The GOP had control of all 3 branches of government. All they did during that time is increase government spending and get into financial scandals with lobbyists.
Now, when they don't have the majority, they want to blame democrats for all the problems. It is the purest form of hypocrisy. The Dem's have had control of congress for less than 2 years and they already have brought down government spending by 30%.
Excellent question. The GOP had everything and did nothing. They have absolutely no reason to blame anyone but themselves.
The Dems kept carping about the GOP's only energy policy being ';drill, drill, drill.'; Funny how sensitive the GOP is.
I asked this a couple of hours earlier. Nary a Republican replied. They don't know and malfunction when you ask such a question.
A oil neocon will never open up ANWR. Saudis are an oil neocon's best friend.. and they wouldn't like it too much if we opened up ANWR.
Because of the negative press that would have been generated by liberals.
Unfortunately Republicans are cowards that way.
No real public support for it.
Now there is and that is what people want the better question is why aren't the Democrats responding to the will of the people?
Times change, one plan fit all doesn't work in the real world. Whats good today won't be tomorrow.
Oh. And to the poster who asked this earlier, I am a Republican and didn't malfunction, I just got on here.
This issue has been around alot longer then seven years and it is not just the republicans it is the liberals and the inviromentalist.There has been effort's in the past and currently there will be a debate.People need to understand it is nothing really to do with price of oil as the media and other's are trying to point out it is about using our own oil not middle east oil while trying to develope alternatives to oil is that not better.
1996, Bill Clinton didn't approve either.
We need it now cause it's a concern NOW and Dems are the ones that don't want too....
The oil monopolies dont need new oil. They have plenty to sell.
The only reason we would start driling for new oil, is if we wanted to allow competition from new oil companies in a free market, and drive down the price of gas to a dollar a gallon.
FACT CHECK:
2 years ago when Republicans had the Senate, Congress, and White House:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.00 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up over 5% (a 10% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
Thumbs down me all you want, but FACTS are FACTS!
