Oil Drilling Job? How do you get one?

How would someone go about getting a job at one of these oil rigs popping up everywhere here in Texas? Do you just go up to one? How does it work? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!Oil Drilling Job? How do you get one?
It depends on what state of the project you want to be on, but I'm assuming drilling (drilling/completions/production); the jobs range from ruffneck, engineer, geologist, operator, deck hand etc. But if you want to work on the rigs - you should apply to either the oil company, drilling company or services company. (Schlumberger, Halliburton, Chevron, Exxon, Shell, etc.). There is a wide range of jobs that require varying levels of education/experience.Oil Drilling Job? How do you get one?
In denver we have advertisements in the industrial neighbor hoods calling for people on oil rigs so try looking in job ads. You could possibly simply go up to a oil well however it is fairly likely they wont let you near for safety reasons and will already have a full crew. However someone there would be able to tell you how he got the job. Be aware of two things though 1.an oil rig isnt necessarily up to date on sexual harassment and 2. if you intend to commit to the job as a career (which is likely since it requires training) then you will probably have to travel quite a bit to remote locations.
