Are we crazy to not trying to increase our own oil output and expect ALTERNATIVE energy to save us? It will take a long time to get there, what are we supposed to do meanwhile? OPEC surely is not going to help us, Libs have thoroughly brainwashed a lot of Americans.Do you want America to start drilling for more oil like brazil or pay $80 to fill up your tank every week?
Brazil is drilling offshore because they are aware of the tremendous opportunity to export oil and make some money on the world market. Brazil has for quite some time been fueling vehicle with a government mandated 25% ethanol blend. They are the world's second largest producer of ethanol which they make from sugar cane which grows like weeds in there. You can't drive a car in Brazil on 100% petrol. It doesn't exist. So if you look at this from an unbiased point of view, Brazil is actually LEADING us on the way to alternatives.Do you want America to start drilling for more oil like brazil or pay $80 to fill up your tank every week?
Brazil is drilling in the ocean for what is presumably light sweet crude. Most conservatives propose drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Preserve for what is poor quality oil. And it won't help, because it's more expensive than paying our best buds the Saudis to sell it to us cheap. We already have producing oil wells in Texas and even some in Los Angeles that are hidden behind what appear to be 15-20 story buildings. But they're not operating because it's not economically feasible. And drilling in Alaska won't make it any more economically feasible.
P.S. Brazil, like the US, is a leading producer of ethanol. But if I recall, they produce it from cane rather than corn. I might be wrong about that -- the only reason I bring it up is that it's a more efficient way of producing ethanol. Brazil also requires their cars to burn any of a combination of fuels, so they're less affected by changing fuel prices.
We need a balanced energy policy that doesn't put us over the hump with ANY foreign country. It's not a liberal issue -- it SHOULD be viewed as an issue of national security.
We have started to do what we should have done years ago we are starting to produce cars that use less gas or in some cases fuels other than gas but it is going to take time to get enough of these cars on the road in the mean time we need a short term solution. Ethanol from corn isn't the solution because we can't produce enough corn to make ethanol and feed the people. The Alaskan Wild Life Refuge isn't the only aria that we have oil we have the oil shale in the west . One other thing how many people know that Canada will start producing oil from what they call oil sand it is like the oil shale that we have and our Congress just voted to not allow Canada to export any of that oil into the U.S.
We should have started developing our own oil resources 10 years ago, we would see some good from that now. 10 years
is about the time it would take to see results from drilling in
Alaska now.
Relax, in 2 years we will see autos that you plug in at night and drive up to 150 miles the next day, we just need better batteries. we will still need wind farms all over to generate electricity, and better photo voltaic cells for sun powered elec. Then demand for oil will drop and so will the price.
Even if we had more oil, the environmentalists have kept us from building any new refining capacity for over 30 years.
congress could ease the restrictions on refining plants but will not. Hang in there and buy stock in company's that build
lithium ion bat tries and those who develop ways to get electric from sources other than oil.
gas prices in the states are still half what most europeans pay...its 拢1.20 per liter where i live thats about $2.50 per liter!!
if the states would reduce their dependance on fossil fuels and start to care about OUR plant then you may not have to pay this...from a europeans point of view it seem like we are the ones going green while the states sits back and poisens the rest of us!!..... i hope you all choke on your own emmisions you have brought this on yourselves and your crippled nation!
Drill and refine in America,no American oil may be exported.
Meanwhile,we look for viable alternatives and build the infrastructure.
Not drilling makes about as much sense as having a cupboard full of beans and starving to death because you don't want to pass gas and contribute to global warming.
I want to drill for more oil, but I also want to ween ourselves off of it so that we can develope other forms of energy so we as a nation can turn towrads the Middle East as one nation and say ';Eat Sand!';
Brazil exports its oil; the US would merely consume any additional oil that it produces domestically.
Yeah, we need to drill for more oil as a short term fix. Long term, we need to reduce consumption (which we're learning the hard way like we did in the 70's).
We need to drill but it won't happen until we kick some liberal tree hugging ***.
