Is the the democrats or republicans in congress that are opposing us drilling our own oil?

and causing us to pay $4.00 a gallon and be dependent on foreign oil?Is the the democrats or republicans in congress that are opposing us drilling our own oil?
A republican Congress and a Republican President closed the florida coast to drilling in 2005. Now the Chinese are drilling there. The volume of oil off the florida coast is exponentially larger than the oil in ANWR.Is the the democrats or republicans in congress that are opposing us drilling our own oil?
Democrats al la the environmentalist lobby. We can't drill. We can't build new refineries. We can't build new power plants - coal or nuclear.

The only solution the democrats can come up with? Tax the oil companies. Yeah, that's really going to lower prices.

Someone on here commented that the oil companies don't have any incentive to explore for more oil and build more refineries. Because the higher price of gas is actually good for them. Well, the only way that monopoly works is when there are restrictions on developing new capacity. If the market were allowed to function freely, the problem would cure itself. Because someone would decide they can make a profit selling the product for a little less than ';big oil'; and invest in the extra capacity to make it happen. Then ';big oil'; would have to lower prices to be competitive. And the price would fall until it finds its equilibrium at market.

It's the restrictions on oil supply and refining capacity that are causing most of our problems. And we have the democrats to thank for most of those restrictions.
democrats tend to be against drilling in environmentally fragile areas. Repubs look for whatever policy lines their pockets and prefer to not think about the future of the masses, thinking their own children will be saved by their inheritance. As long as there is a steady supply of cheap labor, everything else is secondary to the ';conservative rebublican'; The rich top-echelon Democrats are just as bad. Nothing tops their self-righteous hypocrisy as they bash others with the same qualities (like relig. fundamentalists). - there, glad I got that out
It's actually mas confusion.

Everyone has their own take on it.

The Liberal Demos don't want to drill.

The Conservatives Rep DO want to have at it.

Once way more pain and suffering and destruction to individuals due to impotence of government (compliments of the Demo party mostly) oil will start to be drilled as makes sense.

Of course the health of planet earth will be further endangered ...but no one wants to talk about population limitations. Only about letting million upon millions of law breaking illegals into our country as new citizens and opening our borders to even more.

When I look at the way it is ...I would liken the situation to kind of like having cancer. We are being eaten alive by ourselves.
All of the democrats opposed it except 5.

All of the republicans were for it except 8.

The democrats are opposing it.

Join the 850000+ in our quest for drilling in America.

Drill here. Drill now. Pay less.

Neither, the oil companies do not have to drill for more oil or build new refineries. With 5 dollar gas and a well established market. There is no reason to invest more money into making less money. The Oil companies pay congress on both sides of the isle to dis-permit new drilling in the USA at the same time paying Congress to keep the market as speculative as possible!
Its the democrats!!!!! They want to save the environment and not drill for the millions of gallons of oil that is here in our country (like in the Gulf of Mexico) so we have to pay wayyyyy too much for gas from other countries. If we had the gas that is here, we would only pay about $1 a gallon. How crazy is that?!
Both, The Democrats won't allow more drilling and refineries.

The Republicans won't fund renewable energy research nor encourage energy conservation policies.

I'm amazed that everybody believes one or the other. I haven't heard anybody suggest that we do both.

Hooray, for our side.
I understand people wanting a quick fix to a long term problem. The way I see it is we drill for oil off shore and ruin the environment. Then we spend millions of dollars trying to fix it. People will get sick. Animals and plants could be harmed. More money spent. Also this wouldn't bring the immediate relief people are seeking.
Though it is only part of the solution, it is something that we MUST do in the short term. We should have been able to make it happen a decade ago but no- the democrats stand in the way.

Again, it is only part of the solution and the other pieces need to be addressed as well...
Democrats. The reason mainly is the fear of damage to the environment. This is the same fear that has prevented us from building any new oil refineries, nuclear power stations, hydroelectric dams, or wind farms off the coast of Nantucket.
Here's a great blog entry that is related to the oil drilling....

Im an independent , so I don't know who I'm voting for.

Honestly though...the dems voted along party lines to stop off shore just last week

It's the OCS bill look it up.
Oh my oh my...... it's much more complicated than that.

Even within the parties there are differences, but this single issue is not what's taking $4 our of your pocket...

Will be interesting to see the flames ignite on here!! Good Luck!
Prices will go down about a nickel over the next decade at the best. It's not going to have huge longterm effects except on the environment. Even if the US drilled all over the country we'd only have 2-3% of the needed national supply.
Democrats have been against it for 30 years.

Oil companies can't eve build a refinery in thos country without the enviromental red tape - they don't even ask anymore.
The Democrats control congress so it must be them!!
